What is the Edinburgh Music Making Initiative?

The Edinburgh Music Making Initiative (otherwise affectionately known as Emmi) is the home of small chamber music sessions in Edinburgh. Our aim is to generate music-making in the community, by the community for the community.

Emmi was set up to allow people of all levels from beginners to advanced to play Classical, Romantic, Early Music, Baroque and World Music.

Although we are based in Shandwick Place right in the heart of Edinburgh we will usually have an outreach project on the go in other parts of the city.

Our premises includes full wheelchair access.

We run sessions for people who are just starting off as beginners and can read basic music.

Late starters are most welcome if they can read music at a basic level or are beyond basic, but still need that extra consideration.

Advanced players who enjoy quartet playing or would like to try quartet playing for the first time are welcome to get in touch. You will really enjoy the music collection we have!

Are you a musician returning to music after a break and don't know where to start? Get in touch.

So you mastered the mouth organ as a child and now want to practice the violin?

Good news - that's what we are about - gaining confidence in a second instrument!
